Stop The Hate. Promote Love.

In today's American society, intolerance and hatred seem to have become the norm. It is my perspective that ihe recent 2016 election campaign for President of the United States of America is indicative of this pervasive trend.

With each passing day, it seems to me that more and more hate is being spread with increasing opinions being expressed that are full of vitriol. Social and political commentary in the United States frequently takes the form of attacking the "other side" or the "other person" without regard to the issues at hand or of policy substance or even of the actual facts. Name-calling, belittling, and denigration have become the standard of the day.

Rather than to address the issues, it is commonpace nowadays in America for people to bash what or whom they hate. Rather than spreading love for all of humankind, it is commonplace nowadays in America to spread distrust, intolerance, and hatred.

It is time to turn the tide in America. It is time to switch the tactics. I suggest people turn away from bashing what they dislike, and instead. promote those things they like and in which they believe.

Instead of writing and/or using speech that just disparages those things with which a person may not agree, I believe it would be more productive and beneficial for people to use the approach of persuasive speech.

Thank you, CWMartin/ You and I serve as each other's check and balance system in many areas that relate to the basic premise of this topic. You have helped me tremendously in my own desire at self-improvement and for that I am grateful.

Here is a copy and paste of something from my Facebook wall that followed placing the link over there :[Part 1]

Elaine Soukup: Start with stopping to spread the hatred of our President Donald J Trump and His Administration and His Family. Our Country is in see

Roland Louis Hansen: Excuse me, but Trump is the biggest offender of all!

Elaine Soukup: So it's okay to keep bashing him? If the press laid off oh President Trump we might get to see the real Donald Trump. What a horrible time in our Country!

Roland Louis Hansen: The plain simple fact is that during the campaign and ever since then, Trump has consistently spewed vitriol. His approach toward others is one of intolerance and hatred. Trump.constantly and consistently attacks the "other side" or the "other person" without regard to the issues at hand or of policy substance or even of the actual facts. Name-calling, belittling, and denigration are the standard for Trump. To point out those attributes of DJ Trump is not bashing him nor is it spreading hate; it is a description of how Trump speaks, writes, and behaves; it is ponting out truth - it is just that plain and simple.

Elaine Soukup: What about the bias liberal mainstream media do all the time. They have totally polarized this Country! Trump didn't do it or normal liberals.

Dan Naylor: You can't talk to them Roland. They will not listen.

Elaine Soukup: Can't talk to you either. You won't listen either

Ron Prochaska: Dan, you are correctomundo on that one.

Elaine Soukup: You too

Roland Louis Hansen: “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” ― Nelson Mandela

Scott Gould: I love the fact that MOST of our country did *not* vote for, and will never support that lying fool named trump. That gives me hope for a better future.

Elaine Soukup: Where is your love instead of spewing more hatred. Of this keeps up, there will be many more people voting Republican reguardless who is running. Just can't get passed lying, crooked Hillary didn't win. So sad

Scott Gould: Elaine Soukup, I speak the truth lady. Grow up already.

Elaine Soukup: Oh, only you, Scott Gould, know the absolute truth & only speak the truth. Talk about distorted thinking. My husband and I were Democrats almost all our lives. Our parents were strong Democrats! About 15 years ago we realized we were not Democrats. Back then there wasn't this hate filled liberal thinking like now. Our parents would never believe what the Democratic Party has changed into. So sad.

Elaine Soukup: Yes, it would really change our Country for people to look at the good and make the DECISION TO LOVE! I personally know that will NOT happen from the above people that responded. The judgements and ""I know I am Right!"" decisions have been made to hate. Just stating a fact.

Roland Louis Hansen: For goodness sake, Elaine! Please stop with the strawman arguments and please stop with the politcal commentary. My blog posting is not about Trump, it is not about the conservatives or liberals, and it is not about the media. It appears to me that you did not even read my blog entry and yet you are making comments about its message that you have have terribly misconstrued. I respectfully request you stop the political diatribe. https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/strawman

Elaine Soukup: Well the first thing that comes to mind what is tearing our Country apart.

Elaine Soukup:Look at my FB pzge - its full of positive postings. But at
Times I can't take the hatred and Just have to post political postings. I try to post truth not the misconstrued when I DO. I am appalled when I see the horrible postings from the left that are just plain vicious and lies. I do not follow the nasty right sites if there are any.

Scott Gould: Roland, your post was about promoting things you love, and I did. :)

Elaine Soukup: So why promote love when you won't do it???????

Alex Brazeau: Bit hypocritical of you, no?

Elaine Soukup: I know I'm right on

Alex Brazeau: More like "off". As in "off your nut".

Elaine Soukup: Oh Alex True liberal! Everyone but liberals are stupid, noneducated, idiots! Only liberals know the truth

Alex Brazeau: No. *You* specifically. Delusional, and living evidence that perhaps Freud's theories were written off too soon.

Elaine Soukup: Oh Alex! I even wonder if you voted. Don't keep drinking the look-aid. just like a liberal turning to name calling!, Grow up!

Alex Brazeau: I haven't missed an election since I turned 18. Local and Federal. No matter. You'll be gone and out of the way of progress soon enough.

Roland Louis Hansen: My initiating status update is a link to an entry that I wrote on my Roland Hansen Commentary blog. A person needs to open the link in order to completely read that which I had written. It seems to me that some people may have only read the message contained within the meme itself
Therefore, for anyone who has not taken the time to open that link and read what I had written, I am copying its contents and posting it here.
THE FULL TEXT OF WHAT I WROTE in my blog entry which only incidentally also contained a meme that states "Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate" IS AS FOLLOWS:

Elaine Soukup: AMEN! This would be so wonderful if all of us would incorporate this into our lives.

Boy a LOT of those comments proved your point. I agree with both you and Elaine. Trump did start things; but you can't yell at him and THEN do the same things. Those that were commenting "you can't talk to them" say that because they are so stuck to their point that they WON'T hear the other side. Hint hint, Scott and Alex. But my friend, you have to realize Elaine is reacting to the bulk of your previous social media postings, and as I said, she has a point. If you only pick the other guys warts and not your own, conversations degenerate into what you have above.

For what it's worth, I cringe every time I hear the word strawman, and then later hear comments like Scott's and Alex's. There should be a term for "strawman denials" as well. Just because they don't want to hear it, doesn't mean she doesn't have a point. And just because she doesn't like it doesn't mean you weren't right about Trump's bully mouth.

But this post begs the question: what do YOU want to do? You can't call for peace and not stand up to both the Trumps AND the Maxine Waters' of the world. Me, I never promised peace, just an evenness to my war, lol! As I see it, there are asshats on each hand, and frankly you and Elaine are the basically not guilty parties in this exchange.

Remember, we can't change the politicians, no matter how much we think we can. We can only change us.

And maybe I defend Elaine a bit too much- she was willing to wallow in the mire with Alex and Scott. But who REALLY started that...?
