Well, guess what! No, don't guess; I will tell you.
This is another of those times; and, this time it combines the two topics of Facebook being a medium for damaging social relationships and of fake friends.
This one, my readers, is going to be a long, long story, in part because it contains detailed word-for-word electronic communications that have transpired. And, of course, I have to add my own commentary.
This Roland Hansen Commentary blog entry concerns a fellow by the name of Jerry Robert Rosen, a 71 year-old man who presently lives in a suburb of Tampa, Florida.
Before I go into all the details, I will provide an introductory lead-in, sort of like those irritating news lead-ins ("coming up next, we will tell you about ..... ") that we hear on television when they tell you what they are going to tell you, sometimes up to three times before they actually give the story.Jerry Rosen19706 Morden Blush Dr.Lutz, FL 33558-9088813-920-0435jrosen5555@gmail.com
In that vein, here is a compilation of excerpts taken in chronological order from actual electronic communications of Jerry Rosen:
Jerry Rosen to Roland Hansen:Now then, are you ready for the whole sordid thing?
"Roland, ...remaining 'friends' on FB makes me a hypocrite. You seem to crave love and affection and have stated you are lonely – as has Judy ... You both seem to need friends, badly. ...when your little widget that tells you that you have been unfriended ... you will see it was me. On one hand I feel sorry for you but on the other you are an adult and should act like one."
Get a cup or two or three of coffee. Sit back and relax. Here we go.
PREFACE: Jerry Rosen is of the mind that he is just like the hall monitor from grade school days, only he monitors Facebook. Jerry Rosen has it in his head that he is empowered to dictate how I and others are to use Facebook. On Saturday, February 10, at 9:48 a.m., I put a link to the obituary of Rolland I. Hansen (Note the difference in spelling of that person's first name from mine) on my Facebook wall. I just placed the link on my wall without writing any comments of any kind about the link to the obituary. The link that I placed automatically showed a preview of the obituary with name, photo, and the initial wording of the obituary. If a reader opened the link, the full obituary notice containing all the details as normally found in a full-length obituary appeared in their web browser.
Jerry Rosen had written me on several occasions over the past few years that he does not like the fact that I write on, or react to, Facebook items and message threads from previous years of which I am notified by Facebook as memories under its "On This Day" pages. Jerry Rosen had also written to me telling me that I should not link to news items or other items from the internet unless I clarify those things. And, he also wrote me stating I should not use Facebook's "check in" feature to places unless I explain why I am where I am at and what I am doing there. (I kid you not; I have saved all his electronic communications to me.)
Now, I continue on to the most recent events and more stuff.
As it turned out, there were quite a few people who responded to that posting of the afore-mentioned obituary link on my Facebook wall with a variety of well-intended comments expressing sympathy.
Lots of folks with lots of kind words.
EXCEPT for one person, that person being Jerry Rosen.
Let me give you all the details of what transpired with my (a-hem) friend Jerry Rosen.
First off, here is a copy of an e-mail I received from my "friend" Jerry Rosen:
from: Jerry RosenAnd, here is a copy of a Facebook private message I received on Sunday, February 11, 2018, from my "friend" Jerry Rosen:
to: Roland Hansen
date: Sat, Feb 10, 2018 at 3:22 PM
subject: Obit
Roland, what is your relationship to the person whose obit you posted on FB today???
Wanna explain the obituary? And then, before I could respond (excuse me, but, I do have a life of my own which unfortunately does not allow me the luxury of being on my computer and its internet connection all day and all night - sarcasm intended -- and. by the way, I was not feeling well for several days including February 11 when I even missed my granddaughter's 15th birthday party), my "friend" Jerry Rosen decided to write something on his own Facebook wall addressing his thoughts on the matter that had him so concerned.
The following is a copy of the Facebook post of February 12, 2018 that Jerry Rosen decided he just had to write in order to save the world from me and my evil ways (Note: Jerry had his Facebook settings arranged so that his posted message would be seen by all his Facebook friends, and, through the use of "tagging" both my wife and me, would also be visible to all my wife's Facebook friends and to all my Facebook friends):
Jerry RosenIn my ill-conceived attempt to respond to Jerry Rosen, on February 12, 2018, I wrote the following on my Facebook wall in a post in which I had my settings so that my posted message would be visible only to Jerry Rosen and me:
02/12/2018 9:30am (Shared with Jerry's friends, Roland and Judy's friends)
So, Roland is dead. May he rest in peace. Oh, wait - for FB friends of the Roland Hansen you have been sending condolences to, it was a prank. I am guessing, since Roland has not responded to me after several attempts to reach him and the entire thread with this obit and more than 80 (at last count) messages of condolences I have determined what may have started out as a joke around a coincidence in names turned into something worse. That is because Roland never clarified his post and never acknowledged all the messages that came pouring in. But I knew from the moment I actually read the obit the gentleman who passed away was not related to the Roland we all know. And he wonders and frequently complains about being unfriended. Even Judy would not respond to me. I don't think Roland meant to prank all his friends but it is nice to see how many people care about you, right Roland? I wish you would have clarified this as soon as messages of condolences came pouring in, and kept coming and coming. Your bad. Oh, I guess you can wipe this post out as well but correct me if I am wrong or apologize to your friends. Be a Mench.
Roland Louis HansenTo that, I added the following meme:
February 12, 2018 at 11:15am
For your consideration:
[In this space, I placed a link to an article on the internet that is entitled "Social Psychology Experiments - Explaining Human Nature]
And, I attached a link to a Roland's Ramblings blog entry of mine entitled Real Friends (as is embedded within its title here).
That was followed by this:
Roland Louis Hansen February 12, 2018 at 10:01 pmAnd then, that was followed by this on the following day of February 13, 2018:
Friends do not try to shame friends.
Roland Louis Hansen February 13, 2018 at 11:41 amWell, my "good friend" Jerry Rosen decided he just had to write again on his own Facebook wall to lecture, castigate, and belittle me. I mean, afterall, who am I to not immediately respond to messages of, and answer to, and comply with the All-Knowing, Great and Powerful Wizard known as Jerry Rosen.
Right, Jerry?
Here is a copy of that post which Jerry put on his Facebook wall on February 13, 2018 (Note: Again, Jerry had his Facebook settings arranged so that his posted message would be seen by all his Facebook friends, and through the use of "tagging" both my wife and me, would also be visible to all my wife's Facebook friends and to all my Facebook friends):

Roland Louis Hansen, I believe that actions speak louder than words and that everyone has a tipping point as to when they believe the actions of another cannot and should not be tolerated. The little stunt you pulled a few days ago by posting someone’s name along with an obituary with absolutely no explanation simply to solicit offers of sympathy went too far, as far as I am concerned. It is no different than when you “check into a hospital” on FB without any explanation and people ask what’s wrong and you don’t respond. I have known you for over 50 years so saying good-bye is not easy but remaining “friends” on FB makes me a hypocrite. You seem to crave love and affection and have stated you are lonely – as has Judy Rosenberg Hansen. You both seem to need friends, badly. Neither of you responded to my email and Messenger inquiries as to whether someone in your family, indeed, had passed away. You still have not responded to me nor offered an apology to the many people that sent you condolence messages. So when your little widget that tells you that you have been unfriended yet again, you will see it was me. On one hand I feel sorry for you but on the other you are an adult and should act like one.
[NOTE: Jerry Rosen shared this same message a second time on 02/13/2018 at 3:48pm with this accompanying message, "Think FB did not allow this to post when I sent it. Trying a second time."]Then, later on that same day of February 13, 2018 at 4:52 p.m., Jerry Rosen went back to my Facebook wall in order to reply to the message that I written on the previous day of February 12, 2018. (Remember, that was the one that I had set to be visible only to Jerry Rosen and me.) Here is what Jerry wrote:
Jerry Rosen: And Masons don’t lie, right Roland? However, by the time Jerry wrote that, I had already left my house to attend a social event. Consequently I was not on Facebook and did not see Jerry's comment until I returned home, turned on my computer, logged into my Facebook account, and read Jerry Rosen's comment at 8:46 p.m. Upon doing so, I replied on my Facebook wall with this:
[SIDENOTE: I am a Freemason, aka Mason; Jerry Rosen is not a Mason.]
Roland Louis Hansen: Right, Jerry Rosen. Masons do not lie. However, as you very well know from personal experience, you may spin something whatever way you want to make something other than what ir (sic) is. And, from there, you make erroneous presumptions accepting your own assumption as your truth and then commit slander.Upon hitting the send key, I immediately found out that Jerry Rosen had already unfriended me on Facebook. None-the-less, because of Jerry's Facebook settings and the fact that he had not blocked me, I was still able to use Facebook to send a private message, which I did. So, on February 13, 2018 at 8:53 p.m., I sent a Facebook private message to Jerry Rosen in which I wrote:
Masons do not lie, Jerry. However, as you very well know from personal experience, you may spin something whatever way you want to make something other than what ir (sic) is. You do so before ascertaining all the facts. And, from there, you make erroneous presumptions accepting your own assumption as your own truth and then commit slander. You believe what you want to believe and you believe that one must act and behave as you dictate. You have made yourself judge and jury. That is not very Jewish of you. You are not a god no matter how much you think of yourself. The timestamp from Facebook indicated that Jerry Rosen read that message at 8:56 p.m.
[SIDENOTE: I am Jewish as is Jerry Rosen.]
I then immediately composed another Facebook private message to Jerry Rosen in which I wrote:
By the way, Jerry, I intend to make a blog entry of your comments to me (uncensored, word for word with dates and times) and provide my perspective of your words and actions. My blog entry will also provide identifying public information concerning you. And, of course the blog will go over on the internet via many venues. Thank you for your friendship (sarcasm intended - what a fake you are!).But, lo and behold, when I attempted to send that as a private message through Facebook at 9:03 p.m. that same evening of February 13, 2018, it could not be sent. The reason my message could not be sent is that Jerry Rosen had gone ahead after having read my immediately preceding private message and blocked me on Facebook messenger and all things connected with Facebook. Consequently, within minutes, I sent that very same message to Jerry Rosen by means of e-mail to his gmail address.
So, here we are. Jerry has done that of which he faulted me, i.e. he failed to immediately or within a short timeframe respond to my messages to him. That seems to me to be a situation of "Pot. Kettle. Black."
*Note that while Jerry Rosen publicly lambasted me on Facebook less than 2 days after having written me, I waited 10 days, during which time Jerry Rosen failed to respond to me, before publishing this blog entry.
Oh my! Did you catch the backhanded comment Jerry Rosen threw at me in regards to the fact that I am a Freemason? Apparently, he thought throwing an insult about me being a Mason was appropriate for some reason. It appears to me, from his words and actions, that Jerry Rosen made the backhanded comment about Masons because he himself does not believe in the same guiding principles as those of a Freemason, which are truth, relief, and brotherly love.
Indeed, the mannerism of Jerry Rosen, as he made that backhanded slur about Masons, appears to reflect his prejudice and disdain for Freemasonry.
Furthermore, it appears very evident to me that Jerry Rosen is definitely not a practitioner of the Spirit of Aloha.
In the spirit of Jerry Rosen and his way of handling such a "vital, crucially important" situation in which another person has blatantly failed to immediately respond to his demands, and in order to follow through with my notification to him that I would write a blog entry (just as Jerry Rosen had given me notification that he was going to "unfriend" me in the wide, wonderful world of Facebook), I have written this blog entry providing my perspective of his words and actions along with the preceding word-for-word transcripts and the following identifying public information concerning him as I had informed him I would.Furthermore, it appears very evident to me that Jerry Rosen is definitely not a practitioner of the Spirit of Aloha.

(I wonder why there is a gap in employment information for the years between 1989 and 1994, and why there is no employment information for the years prior to 1982. Incidentally, I first met Jerry Robert Rosen in 1966 when we both worked in retail sales at the Nobil Shoe Store located in the Westgate Village Shopping Center of Toledo, Ohio.)
---------
So, there you have it. Jerry Rosen was true to his word; he "unfriended" me on Facebook; and, he even took it a step further by blocking me on Facebook.
I find it interesting that Jerry Rosen had ever even thought of me as a friend to begin with. Me? His friend? Heck, I sold shoes along side Jerry Rosen during several months in 1966, during which time he never exchanged any social pleasantries with me. Any verbal exchange was purely work related; no friendship was ever fostered. Less than 6 months after having met Jerry Rosen at Nobil Shoes, he and I went our separate ways. It was only about 8 years ago, after the elapse of 44 years, that we reconnected in 2010 via Facebook and consequently e-mail with me living in Ohio while he was living in Florida. This, then, brings me to think about real friends and fake friends.
Jerry Rosen wrote something with which I disagree in one aspect, but with which I agree in another. Jerry wrote, as I previously cited, "I have known you for over 50 years so saying good-bye is not easy but remaining “friends” on FB makes me a hypocrite."
The part with which I disagree is where Jerry professes that he has known me for over 50 years. In reality, the truth is that Jerry first met me over 50 years ago in 1966 but did not get to know me in the slightest until 44 years later when we began to exchange pleasantries via the cyber highway thanks (a-hem) to Facebook.
The part with which I agree is where Jerry makes reference to the word hypocrite. In my opinion, the words and actions and behaviors of JERRY ROSEN do demonstrate that he is indeed a HYPOCRITE.
Have you ever heard of the saying, "With friends like that, who needs enemies?"
Well -
With a friend like Jerry Rosen....
