My Flu Battle.

I recently contracted the flu and my primary care physician ordered two different medications toward my recovery. Specifically, the medications were Prednisone and Pseudoeph-Bromphen-DM. On day five of taking these medications, I discovered that my blood glucose level had gone up to 386. Consequently, on a Saturday evening, I wound up in the hospital emergency room where I was treated with an injection of insulin, after which when my blood sugar level had reached 179, I was released to go home.

My primary care physician and medical team failed to provide me information about how my diabetes affects my recovery from the flu.

I am aghast that my PCP prescribed 2 meds that adversely affected me because of my diabetes without warning me of the potential risks and side effects. I only learned of the effects as a result of having to go to the hospital emergency room. As instructed by the ER doctor, I made a follow up phone call to the doctor’s office on the following Monday. As usual , I was not able to speak with the doctor, but did speak with one of his staff members. She told me that she would message the doctor and get back to me. The next morning, she called and left me a voicemail because I was unable to answer my cell phone when she had called at 8:00 a.m. I was told my reaction to the meds was typical and that I need not see the doctor for follow through until my next regularly scheduled appointment that was more than 3 weeks away.
